Understanding in the correction of children

by CR (129)

Parents should not frighten their children with threats and shouting, but proceed with calm, understanding and good judgement to gain their trust, friendship and respect. A good educational approach consists of frequent informal conversations with them, which they can intelligently take advantage of to address the faults they have observed in their children and help them correct themselves, showing them how to do the right things.

Even if they don't show it, deep inside children are always grateful to their parents, when they feel their interest in their future, security, happiness and well-being.

Parents should prefer restriction of privileges for a specified period of time to physical punishment. In fact some modern societies completelly forbid physical force to correct or punish children's bad behavior.

Both parents should always be absolutely serene and composed when correcting their children, because nervousness and the consequent alteration of the usual tone of voice, not only weaken their authority, it may also produce a feeling of revolt, an effect contrary to what the parents had in mind.

Furthermore, criticism in the presence of strangers is entirely inadvisable because it humiliates children and hurts their feelings.

Every educational action must have as purpose and source of inspiration the sincere desire of parents to strengthen their children's personality and character.
